Short-form, UGC and performance ads

Hook variants

The first three seconds decide whether an ad gets watched. Your editor builds several openings for the same ad body, for example a visual hook, a text-led hook and a spoken hook, so your media buyer can test the opening without a reshoot.

Cutdowns in every ratio

RatioWhere it runsWhat the editor watches for
9:16Reels, Stories, TikTok, YouTube ShortsReframing for vertical rather than cropping; text inside safe zones
4:5Facebook and Instagram feedTaller than square, so it takes more of the mobile feed
1:1Feed placements and marketplacesProduct and captions kept central
16:9YouTube, websites, LinkedInWider framing, and longer cuts where the placement allows

Platform safe zones

TikTok and Reels lay buttons, captions and the account name over the bottom and right of the frame. Your editor keeps captions, prices, logos and calls to action clear of those areas, using safe-zone guides for each placement, so nothing that sells the product is hidden.

Captions

Plenty of short-form is watched with the sound off. Your editor burns in captions styled to your brand, checks them for accuracy, and supplies SRT files when a placement needs them.

Meta and TikTok formats

Exports to each platform’s specs, lengths cut for each placement (for example 6, 15 and 30 seconds), and files named so every variant can be uploaded and tracked. For TikTok, edits that feel native: creator-style pacing, on-screen text, and music from the platform’s commercial library or tracks you have licensed.

UGC editing

Your editor picks the best takes from creator footage, tightens the delivery, adds b-roll, product shots, text overlays and music, and assembles several versions from one batch of clips.

Tools we match to

Premiere Pro, After Effects, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro, with review in Frame.io or your own tool. These are tools we match editors to, not certifications. Tell us your stack and the shortlist reflects it.

An example monthly scope

This is an example, not a guarantee. Real volume depends on your footage, how complex the edits are and how many rounds of changes you want, and the scope is agreed with your account lead. For a mid-level editor ($900 a month) working for a D2C brand on a weekly creative cycle, a month might look like this:

WorkstreamExample volume
New ad concepts edited from raw or UGC footage4 concepts
Hook variants3 per concept, 12 in total
Cutdowns of the strongest versions9:16, 1:1 and 16:9 for each
Organic short-form for Reels, TikTok and Shorts12 to 16 posts
Captions and platform exportsOn everything
Review rhythmA weekly batch, with live changes in your working day

An example test brief to trial an editor

Every dpoint seat starts with a trial before you commit. The fairest test is the work you actually need, so give the editor real footage and a real brief. Copy this one and adapt it.

Brief: one product, three hooks, three ratios

You provide: 3 to 5 raw UGC or product clips (2 to 4 minutes in total), your logo, fonts and colours, and one ad you like as a reference.

Deliver:

  1. One 20 to 30 second ad in 9:16, with burned-in captions kept inside the TikTok and Reels safe zones.
  2. Three hook variants: the same body with three different opening three seconds (one visual, one text-led, one spoken).
  3. A 1:1 and a 16:9 cutdown of the strongest version.
  4. A short note on why each hook was chosen and what they would test next.

Time: one to two working days.

What to judge: the first three seconds, pacing, caption accuracy, safe zones, brand fit, file naming, and the thinking in the note.

Use your own material rather than a spec exercise, so the output is usable. How the test fits into the trial is agreed with your account lead.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to hire a full-time offshore video editor?

Through dpoint, a dedicated, full-time video editor costs $600 a month at junior level (1 to 3 years' experience), $900 at mid level (3 to 6 years) and $1,300 at senior level (6 years or more), all-in. A US video editor costs roughly $4,600 to $8,200 a month fully loaded. There is no recruiting fee, and the price is fixed in writing before you start.

Can the editor make hook variants and cutdowns for Meta and TikTok ads?

Yes, that is the core of the role. The editor builds several openings for each ad, cuts the strongest versions to 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 and 16:9, keeps captions and calls to action inside each platform's safe zones, and exports files named so your media buyer can upload and track every variant.

Which editing software do your editors use?

Premiere Pro, After Effects, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro, with review in Frame.io or whatever you already use. We match editors to your stack, so tell us your tools and any licences you already hold when we scope the role.

How do we share raw footage and large files?

The simplest set-up is your own Google Drive, Dropbox or Frame.io, so footage, project files and exports stay in accounts you control. The editor works from there under an NDA signed before day one, and you can remove access at any time.

Who owns the edits and project files?

You do. IP assignment is signed before the editor starts, so the edits, project files, exports and any templates made for you belong to your business.

Should I hire a video editor or a graphic designer first?

If your ads and social are mostly video, start with the editor. If statics, carousels, listings and email visuals dominate, start with a designer. If you need both, a mid-level editor and a mid-level designer cost $1,800 a month together.

Will the editor work our hours?

Yes. dpoint runs 24/7 and your editor works your own working day, US, UK or Gulf, so feedback and changes happen live. For US clients that is a dedicated evening or night shift in India.
